Chris Rock Tackles the “Good Hair” Topic
When I think of Chris Rock not once does the topic of hair ever come up so when Kathryn showed me the trailer for his new documentary I was a bit confused. For those of you who are not aware, “good” hair is a serious topic in Black America that often sparks passionate debates as to what is “good” hair and if your hair isn’t considered “good” does that make it “bad” hair. Here is a clip from Spike Lee’s “School Daze” that I feel sums up the debate rather well.
Fyi, that is one of my favorite clips!!! But do you see what the debate is all about? “Good” hair is traditionally known to be straight or wavy while the “other” is Black hair in its natural state. My personal definition for “good” hair is healthy hair whether it be chemically processed, naturally straight, naturally kinky or whatever- as long as it’s healthy then it’s all good.
Chris Rock’s documentary “Good Hair” delves into the topic in a way that only Chris Rock could pull off- seeing is believing so here you go!
