Beauty Blogosphere Happenings
Good morning B. spot!
Some of my fave beauty blogs reviewed interesting products over this past week. Let’s check it out shall we?
That Makeup Girl reviewed Lavanila the Healthy Deodorant. As soon as I read the title I scrunched up my nose in full skepticism mode and did a little research on the product. Just in case you didn’t know, underarm funk is caused by bacteria (sweat is odorless) so in order to get rid of the funk you have to address the bacteria issue.

Science Behind It:
Lavanila uses an ingredient called Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide that balanced the microflora in the skin. We all have bacteria that lives within our pores- this is natural and there is nothing that you can do about it- nor should you want to! Problems occur when the ratio of good bacteria to bad bacteria is disrupted and the bad bacteria population becomes larger (they run a muck and wreak all kinds of havoc on the skin in the form of acne, BO, etc.) Lavanila took the approach of shifting the bacteria balance back to normal which should help keep funk levels undetectable.
Here is a totally random tidbit that I thought you would enjoy…
When a Woman Smells Best
By Sara Goudarzi, Special to LiveScience
The scent of a woman is more attractive at certain times of the month, suggests a new study that had men sniffing women’s armpit odor.
“We were interested whether armpit odor changes across menstrual cycle,” said study author Jan Havlieek of the Department of Anthropology at Charles University, Prague. “To test this, we asked a group of women to wear cotton pads in their armpits for 24 hours.”
The women didn’t wear perfumes, use deodorants, eat spicy or smelly foods, smoke, drink alcohol or use hormonal contraceptives such as the pill. Body odor was collected during three phases: menstrual (at the beginning); follicular (between the first day of menstruation and the onset of ovulation); and luteal (the fertile stage).
“The fresh pads were subsequently rated for their attractiveness and intensity by a group of 42 men,” Havlieek told LiveScience.
The most attractive smells, men said, were from the time between the first day of menstruation and ovulation.
You have got to love science people! Now back to the subject at hand…
They also use ingredient like corn starch and silica to absorb sweat and keep you dry. I don’t like the scare tactics that they are using to convince you to try the product. If you product is as good as you think it is then don’t scare people into using it with a preschool understanding of the “medical reports”.
Bella of Cafe-Beautique did an extensive on mascaras with some very useful tips! One of her fave is Max Factor 2000 Calories.

That’s it for now,
Later!
