Traveling Salesman

Good evening B. spot!
Today has been a whirlwind! I had to be at La Guardia airport super early this morning to make a sales call in North Carolina and then fly back because I have another meeting in New Jersey the following morning. This “new” economy has me wearing hats that I never thought fit me before but I must admit- I do like the look! I regard myself as a cosmetic chemist first and foremost but I have learned that in order to get ahead (or even just keep your head above water) I have to be an out-of-the-box thinker and no-nonsense doer.
As I said, I am a chemist first but now I do marketing, public relations and the newest and most important “gig”- Sales! People tell me that I have the personality for sales (I guess a little BS goes a long way:-) but I never seriously considered it until our client “well” started drying up and I decided that it was now or never; do or die…thus I chose to “do” which explains why I had to wake up at an obscene hour and board the tiniest commuter plane that I had ever seen (great size for a private jet but a bit scary for a fully booked commercial jet)…back to the point…You want to know something- so far I am loving this new responsibility! Yes it does take away from my first love but that’s were my awesome team comes into play and I don’t have to worry about things not getting done. I can concentrate on growing my business despite a “sick” economy (that I know will turn around); and believe it or not this is actually a good thing for us. This slow down is forcing us to change the way that we’ve been doing things since the inception of the company (which just so happens to be older than me) and no longer resting on our reputation; we are being proactive and at the end of the day- I know that we will prevail.
“Hats Off” to all my B. spotters with high hopes and the will and drive to see them through!
