My Life in the Lab
Oh, Cosmetech, how much do I love thee, let me count the ways…how many people can say that about their company? I am in love with my job- in fact, if it weren’t for my husband and children at home I think that I could stay here burning the midnight oil every night. I have to force myself to stay away from the computer when I’m home or I will become completely absorbed in my work leaving my family to fend for themselves.
As with anything in life, my career has its share of ups and downs- especially in this economy. Being the boss, tough decisions are required and although it really does pain me to my core to have to do it- cut backs had to be made. When you run a company and you have tightened up your budget, cut costs where possible (without effecting daily activities and quality of your operation) and reduced the expenses as much as it can go- sometimes the only way to save the whole ship is to throw something overboard. In this case, it’s not a something but a someone. A someone with a family to provide for, a mortgage to pay; someone with a life that depended on his job. It is never an easy thing to do and I question the presence of a soul for those who can do it without so much as a second thought. Now I’m not talking about slackers who don’t want to work but want all of the benefits of the job. I’m referring to people who put 110% into their job. I’m referring to the people who are team players and do whatever is asked, whenever asked, always to the best of their ability. Those are the ones that keep me up at night.
Luckily, I still have a dedicated team who can roll with the punches and instead of running they are buckling down to help the situation. We have Bella who apparently is not only a computer wiz and idea factory but is turning out to be the best salesperson ever. What would I do without little spunky Bella (I’m serious when I say little- I think she’s like 4′ 8″)? Then there’s Wanda who has had my back since I hired her almost 6 (if not more) years ago. She is definitely a do-or-die chic who is down to do whatever necessary to keep things moving. Wanda, my right hand for sure! Then there is the newest of the mix, Katherine from Trinidad; hiring Katherine is one of my best business decisions. She is intelligent, innovative (a bit on the skinny side- but we can change that) and most of all she has a passion for the business. All together, we have the team and mindset to take my company- no, no, no- our company to the top. There is a corner office waiting for all of them because I know that I am nothing without my team.
Thanks for all that you do, ladies, I really, truly, absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, appreciate all that you do! And to the ones that went away- I’m coming back for you if you will have me;)
I guess the new blog design has me feeling all soft and pink…oh well…I wouldn’t take back one word!
