Weekly Round Up B. Spot Style!!
Can you believe that Spring is already here? Where has the time gone? I’m feeling a bit nostalgic since my #@th High School reunion is tonight- even though many people bailed at the last minute (bums:) My slight facebook addiction doesn’t help since I have reached back and reconnected with people from the like 3rd grade (sad yes I already know- judge not lest ye be judged people)! On with business…
All About the Pretty reviewed Olay Body Wash Plus Tone Enriching Ribbons (good thing they don’t charge by the letter). A bargain buy at your local drugstore that can tempt even the manliest of men to lather up.
Science Behind it:
These body washes are so interesting, from a chemist’s point of view, because they have decent foaming even though they contain a high load of petrolatum. In a typical surfactant system the higher the oil level the worse the foaming! How can this be? The geniuses at P&G have done it again but guess what…I-know-their-secret (in a teasing sing songy tone). Come here and I’ll whisper it in your ear…ready……wait for it.……….spherulites, shhh don’t say it out loud- remember, you didn’t hear it from me.
Spherulites are lamellar structures (platelike structures “stacked” up) that are rolled up trapping the oil inside. There are many, many, many, many spherulites in the surfactant system hiding the oil from the rest of the ingredients so it doesn’t have the same negative effect on foaming/lathering and allows for a more moisturizing surfactant system- in this case, body washes! I know, you don’t have to tell me, gooood stuff!

Next up, Sugar Shock Beauty took a look at Dermalogica’s Total Eye Care complete with it’s super powers! Be ready to drop a few pennies-3900 of them- for this baby! SPF 15 for age prevention, AHA for exfoliation and refining (I question the use of an AHA in an eye product), light diffusing pigments for instant gratification and algae extract for depuffing- it’s all you want in an eye cream!
Science Behind It:
As you know, AHA’s dissolve the “mortar” holding old skin cells but my concern is that the eye is already very thin so I’m not so sure that AHA’s are the way to go. However, there are milder AHA’s available besides glycolic and lactic acids sooo I’m sure the formulators at Dermologica have done their homework and formulated it be safe for the eye area…I was just saying…
Sunscreens with UVA protection are great for preventing photoaging, Total Eye has titanium dioxide that offers some protection in the UVA but primarily works in the UVB region. For those of you who like to see results instantly, they added some smoke and mirrors by way of light diffusing pigments **side bar- read my post “Shine Free Salvation” for more info on light diffusing or soft focus effects**

The Olay Body Wash is Josh’s (9 year old son) favorite for bath time. He stole it from my sister the last time she used my bathroom. I personally don’t love it that much. I find it it as a musty odor (very faint at end note).

I have the dermalogica night clearning gel and I noticed it seems to make me break out at first. Is this common? To break out at first then your pimples go away..or should I just stop using it?I heard the dermalogica stuff is really good so I want to keep giving it a try but not if its just going to make me break out. What should I do?
