Relieving Dry Skin with Olay Quench and a Clean Shave

Posted March 6, 2009 by NiKita

Hi B. Spotters!  I am back from Switzerland where I had no internet access- oh the horror!!!  I coud only get so much mileage out of my blackberry before two things happened: 1) my fingers cramped up something terrible and 2) the keys were way too small so the amount of typos would have been unreadable…

So I made a discovery that many of you probably are already well aware of…recently I tried Olay Body Quench Deep Moisture Lotion (with the aquacurrent science discussed a few months ago) and was totally unimpressed.  I must confess that at the time, my legs would have made the wooliest of mammoths jealous (yeah, it was a really lazy winter).  However, I was inspired to shave when I received a sample of Pure Silk Moisturizing Shave Cream (Looove it) and then I needed something to use to keep ash at bay and the closest thing to me was the Olay Body Quench.  To my amazement, the Quench made my legs feel even softer and silkier and it kept the scales from coming back later that day.  The true test came last week while in Switzerland, it was the only lotion that I had with me and it was enough to keep me moisturized all day!

What that tells me is that the Quench deep moisture for normal skin is just that- it can keep normal skin in check all day but if you are more in the lizard family, it won’t do much for you.  If you do suffer from really dry skin- not irritated and sensitive skin but dry scaly skin- try shaving on a weekly to biweekly basis to exfoliate that dead layer of skin along with the stubble to keep your legs soft and touchable!

Science Behind It:

You can refer back my write up on P&G’s aquacurrent science that I posted in December for background on that aspect of moisturization.  It’s the immediate benefit that wowed me when I tried quench on shaved skin!  The first thing that jumped out at me is that this is a liquid crystal emulsion- what that means that the structure of this lotion has the same organization as the structure of your skin; it forms a “second layer” of skin that contains both natural and synthetic lipids (oils) such as petrolatum (hate it if you want but it holds moisture in like no other), jojoba seed oil, cocoa butter and dimethiconol.  It also contains sugar based humectants and moisturizers that soften your skin for a baby’s butt feeling like sorbitol and betaine.
