Ode to Ojon…Restorative Hair Treatment
I’ll call this entry “Ode to Ojon” because I have fallen head-over-heals for this pricey product! Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment is a pungent, nutty smelling butter that is not for the faint of heart as you will have to shell out at least $50.00 for the medium sized container, but all I can say is, oooh is it worth every dime! After using this treatment my hair was super soft and moisturized. It actually made my virgin hair (my last relaxer was 7 months ago!) easy to manage without fighting to get a comb through it! You can use it as a deep conditioner or as a daily hair dressing to keep your hair soft, smooth and silky. Just keep in mind if you do choose to use it as a daily treatment a little goes a long way. Till we meet again Hairs 2 You!!
Thanks Sis! Now for the Science Behind it:
The main ingredient in the Restorative Hair Treatment is Elaeis oleifera (American Palm), a palm tree located in Central America. Why is it pricey? This particular palm is not used for industry because the fruit only produces a little bit of oil- because it’s not widely available (like it’s African counterpart) the price is higher. It moisturizes your hair because it’s composition is similar to our hair’s natural oil. Because it is a palm oil, it penetrates into the hair strand as opposed to just coating the surface which creates a greasy feel. However, using too much will make your hair stringy (it’s still an oil:-))
About Hairs To U:
I can discuss beauty products all day- everyday and not get bored with the subject. Hair holds a different appeal to me because I like to talk about what’s in the products and why they work but ask me for advice on maintenance and I have to turn to the hair junkie in my life- my big sis Na’Kisha. She is an invaluable source to me for all things hair (and many other things) so I thought it worthwhile to give her space on the B. spot to share her hair journey with my fellow B. spotters titled “Hairs To You”. This section will discuss maintenance tips, hair growth strategies, products, products and more products. (FYI, to stay true to the format of the B. spot, I will chime in at the end to go into the science behind the products).
Without further ado, I am proud to introduce Na’Kisha’s intro for “Hairs To You”…
I think I need help! This addiction I have is serious and grows stronger everyday. Can’t really pinpoint when it began twelve, thirteen, maybe even earlier than that! All I know is that I can’t seem to shake it. But please don’t pity me; don’t feel bad for me cause truth be told, you probably suffer from the same addiction that has afflicted me for years! Its not drugs, its not alcoholism (although I do enjoy a good cocktail every now and then)- my obsession is hair! Crazy right? Braids, weaves, wigs I’ve donned them all in search of my own Sasha Fierce (Beyonce, I love you girl!). And let’s not even get on the subject of hair products! You know your problem is serious when at any given moment you can look in your bathroom cabinets and total over four hundred dollars worth of product in search of that one miracle cream, pomade or whatever that will make your two limp pieces of hair look like one of those fancy seven thousand dollar lace front wigs that the celebrities are sportin’ these days.
Oh and by the way, yes, delusions are a major symptom of the disease that many hair product manufacturers use to prey upon weak hair addicts such as myself. I mean let’s keep it real ya’ll, if there was really a magic pill, grease, or topical product that could grow ear length hair to the middle of the back in sixty days the faux hair business would not be grossing the multi-millions of dollars that it is today!
But in my quest for self recovery, I have discovered that my hair is what I make it! No matter if I sport a wig (which I have been doing for the past year), or if I’m sportin’ my own. Its all about being realistic and smart about the choices we make. Now that’s not to say that I won’t occasionally fall for pretty promises in pretty packaging (I’m a sucker for pretty packaging) but it does mean that I will certainly be more thoughtful before giving up my money, after all we are in a recession and all! So my promise to all of my fellow addicts is truthful reviews and total disclosure of products, resources, websites and whatever else I can find to help us on the road to recovery! With that being said, untill we meet up again, to ALL of my fellow addicts in this hair game, Hairs to you!!!
