Exuviance Vespera Bionic Serum
One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2009 is to reduce my dependence on concealers for both my eyes and skin. My biggest issue is hyperpigmentation (those unsightly dark marks); just when I think that I’ve lessened the problem and it’s safe to take pictures- BAM!- there they are mocking me once again causing me shy away from photo ops **sigh** However, 2009 is a new year with new beginnings and I have already started the process with Exuviance Vespera Bionic Serum.
I am a Cosmetic Chemist, so I am a realist and don’t expect any product to work overnight. I also recently discovered from the SCC Seminar in December that you should also take supplements to help with this problem- I’ll discuss that in a later post, let me get back to the review…
Vespera Bionic Serum is a crystal clear serum that can be a bit sticky; but it’s loaded with the necessary goodies to exfoliate (AHA’s and PHA’s) and help protect (antioxidants) my skin from outside factors that lead to hyperpigmentation. (Sidebar- for me it’s hyperpigmentation for others with fairer skin the problem would be red and/or blotchy skin- we have the same problem but it manifests differently depending on your skin type.) The use of AHA’s are supported by dermatologists to help brighten and even up your skin!
Science Behind It:
Exuviance wrote the book on AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids ) and PHA’s (polyhydroxy acids). The founders of their parent company, Neostrata, discovered the positive benefits of AHA’s on skin and still hold the patents on them! The Bionic Serum contains gluconolactone, a corn derived PHA that functions as a super humectant (promotes water retention- they absorb water from the air) and exfoliant. It’s exfoliating component behaves similarly to glycolic acid (which is also in the serum) by loosening the bonds of the skin resulting in the shedding of the horny layer, uppermost layer of the skin that is comprised of mostly dead skin cells. The exfoliation process exposes fresh new skin that is firmer, brighter, more even and less wrinkled!
