3BU’s of the Week
Hi B. spotters! I am starting a new category on my blog called “Beauty Blog Buddy Up” (3BU). As you know there are sooooo many beauty blogs on the web and many of them do a great job of reviewing products. So my philosophy- Why reinvent the wheel? 3BU is all about linking to other beauty blogs and bringing the science to their post.
So here it is B. spotters, my first 3BU…
Beautifile had rave reviews on Maybelline’s Moisture Extreme Lipstick on December 22nd. Moisture Extreme has the moisturizing benefits of a lip balm with the color payoff of a lip stick!
Science Behind it: Moisture Extreme contains an Over-The-Counter (OTC) skin protectant called allantoin that is used to soften your lips and more important than that it improves the ability for your lips to bind water. Moisture Extreme also has a slew of emollients to further soften up your lips and form a film to trap moisture in your lips keeping them hydrated. It’s an inside-out approach to moisturization so your lips stay ready for a mistletoe moment!
Fabulous Over Forty discussed Time Zone from Estee Lauder. This line represents an emerging trend in skin care that promotes cellular longevity. There are different ingredients that increase cell longevity including the Sirt technology used by Lauder.
Science Behind It:
It basically works by a process called calorie reduction- yes as in a diet for the cells! A Study was done that showed a nutritious diet but decrease in calories prolong the life of certain organisms- it has a similar effect on the cells. Where does Sirtuins come into the story? Sirtuins are a family of proteins some of which control the certain processes happening inside the cell necessary for the maintaining life. When certain sirtuins are activated, the cells go into survival mode allowing them to survive circumstances that would they would not have otherwise thus increasing the cell’s life span.
